Learn How I Quit a Job I Hated to Get Paid to Do What I Love
Aloha! My name is Jeff Orig. I am a videographer and filmmaker based in Honolulu. I do this full time and I have my own little studio in Downtown Honolulu.
I grew up in Chicago and went to film school at Columbia College Chicago. I think it’s the best film program in the midwest. We have lots of alumni working in Hollywood and some have even won some Oscars and Emmys.
My career path has taken me all over the place. I went to L.A. shortly after film school but I wasn’t ready for it nor was it the right situation for me at the time. I ended up in Hawaii and love it here and have been involved in the indie filmmaking community.
In order to pay the bills, I worked as a web designer and as a real estate agent and eventually as a real estate developer. I hated being a real estate agent. I did it because I made the mistake of thinking that if I made a ton of money in real estate, I could fund my filmmaking dreams. That didn’t happen for a variety of reasons. First, because my heart and soul were not in being a real estate agent there is no way I could be successful enough to make the kind of money to fund filmmaking. My potential clients could tell I wasn’t into it. So why would they trust me with one of the largest investments in their life. Second, since I hated it, I never devoted the time and energy to marketing myself to become successful. Basically, I was not proud of being a real estate agent. Plus, I never saw it as a long term career, so I never invested wholeheartedly into it.
It wasn’t a total waste of time though. I did make some money but more importantly, I learned powerful business lessons. Being a Realtor is building your own business. They teach a lot of business skills and marketing skills. I didn’t really know it at the time but I would later use those skills and lessons to build my Videography and Filmmaking studio.
I first started my studio while working as a Realtor but then quickly went full time into videography. I have made some mistakes and have some successes. This class is me thinking about what I wish I would have known when I first started out.
I went from zero clients and working out of our living room to doing this full time, getting all the equipment I want, having a team of editors, shooters, an admin, plus I make a good living doing this. On top of it all, I have the time and freedom to make my personal projects. Best of all, my clients pay me to learn and get better at my craft. I am not rich but my dreams have come true.
They don’t teach you this stuff in film school and college.
This is the first time I am offering this class and I know it’s not perfect. There are probably a few things I left out because I just take it for granted. That is why I am offering a huge discount to the first people that take the class. You will be the beta testers. The good thing with that is you get a massive discount. Plus, you get to ask all the questions you want that way I can add the answers to the next version.
- If you could get 7 years of experience and knowledge all compressed into one class plus access to pick my brain how much would that be worth?
- How much is one class at a University or College?
- Between $4,000-$16,000 per course according to Business Insider in 2014
- What is worth to you to know how to build your studio, get all the equipment you want, and make the videos you want?
