Frequently Asked Questions
No worries, chicken curry. We got you.
No. You don’t have to use the script. Be as creative as you want. We are all working on improving our skills and getting to the next level. If you are a screenwriter, absolutely, show that off and work on that skill.
You have a few choices. First, use this as an opportunity to make new friends. We are building the online community but if we haven’t reached your neck of the woods, feel free to go out there and meet up. You can try www.meetup.com, CraigsList, local schools and universities, local filmmaker groups, and so on. You can even ask local groups like senior citizen homes.
Yes and No. You win by simply participating and getting better at your craft and you can show it to the community. We don’t choose a single “winner” because that’s totally subjective.
Noooo!!!!! The universe is going to collapse in on itself! What have you done? No, not really. But we suggest you submit anyway. The whole point of this is to get better. No judgement here. The films we see from Hollywood are after years of experience from teams of hundreds of cast and crew. They all started somewhere. This is a way to get better. We know it is embarrassing but that’s ok. It will make you want to get better. Plus, it might not be as bad as you think.
It doesn’t have to be. A film that got into the 2015 Sundance film festival was shot entirely on the iPhone 5s. Sure, you can use better stuff and it might make your life easier but don’t let that stop you. Plus the gear acquisition never stops. First it’s any camera, then it’s a DSLR, then it’s the FS5, then it’s the RED, then it’s the Phantom, and so on. Just use what you and your team have.
We are all really busy. We recommend you find a way to make it happen. No one is going to magically give you a chance. you have to make your opportunities. Yes, it will be challenging but this craft is inherently challenging. That’s part of the fun of it.
Just do the best with what you have. It’s all good. Most of us are not using million dollar budgets or even thousand dollar budgets. Just go for it and have fun.
Who knows? Maybe. Go for it. We are here to support you. Maybe you can hire us too because we were cool to you.
